Restoring ColorTRAK firmware 2.04
Those who replaced ColorTRAK firmware 2.04 with 2.05 may have found
that their receiver operates much more slowly after the "upgrade"; and that the
only apparent improvement is the ability to leave data-transfer mode without
shutting receiver power. For many ColorTRAK owners, this small convenience
doesn't justify 2.05's cutting the transmission rate in half, which doubles the
wait during each data transfer. Accordingly, they may wish to restore firmware
2.04 to their receivers.
ColorTRAK/Tracker firmware version 2.04 was supplied by Magellan as a group of
three files:
CPUPLOAD.exe (302,352 bytes), Readme.prn (2,493 bytes),
and Magellan.zip (416,260 bytes).
These three file were obtained from Magellan by a ColorTRAK owner by e-mail late
in 1999, and later forwarded to another ColorTRAK owner in mid-2000. Both have
used these files with satisfactory results.
They are available for access by advanced ColorTRAK/Tracker owners who regret
having installed version 2.05.
In the spirit of helpfulness to others, Sanders-Indev, Inc. has donated server
facilities at
http://www.sanders-indev.com/ctk204/,
from which informed and experienced users of computers and
ColorTRAK receivers can download the version 2.04 files. Please understand that
the donor of the storage site
cannot respond to any communication regarding them; address all communication
to Magellan, as noted in their file Readme.prn.
Warning
Only experienced computer users who are willing and able to read carefully and
to follow instructions meticulously should try to update satellite receiver
firmware. Failure of the receiver battery during the update process, computer
failure, or a mistake in executing the sequence of operations could leave the
receiver in an unrecoverable state.
